All things Coconut

Everyone is going nuts about Coconut. Coconut oil, coconut flour, coconut cream, coconut milk, coconut chunks, coconut sugar or coconut yoghurt of course! Who would have the humble thought that coconut would be so popular and versatile? Here we focus on one of our top products and tell you a little more about why coconut has become one of our healthy favourites

Why choose Coconut?

One of the best properties of coconut oil is its heat resistant properties. In contrast, vegetable and nut oils which are often used in daily cooking, are not resistant to high temperatures. The result is a product which may be detrimental for our health. The heat stability of coconut fats is attributed to the fact that they are saturated fats with a different structure to polyunsaturated fats.

But aren’t saturated fats bad for us? Well, the saturated fats in coconut oils behave in a different way to saturated fats in animal foods. Most of the fat in coconut oil consists of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) which, contrary to long-chain fatty acids, are not stored in fatty tissue in our bodies. For this reason, coconut oil has actually been investigated for its potential to help with weight management and heart health. MCFAs are also more easily absorbed than other fats, and more quickly transported to the liver and converted to energy. Because coconut oil is from a plant source, it doesn’t contain any cholesterol either. It’s thought to favour our levels of healthy HDL cholesterol, but not affect our levels of the unhealthy LDL cholesterol. Further research is still being done to support some of its wonderful benefits.

Nutiva Coconut Manna

Coconut Manna stands out because of its outstanding versatility and quality. This is very important when choosing your coconut oil. This tropical-melt-in-your mouth treat is made from pure dried coconut which you can have directly from the jar or warmed up .

We obviously love it as it is made from Fresh Coconuts, it is Organic, Non –GMO and suitable for Vegans. It is also ‘Virgin’ which means that the coconut is extracted without the use of chemicals.

Here are our top uses of Nutiva Coconut Manna pureed coconut

  • Use it for roasting, stir frying, sautéing and so on.
  • It is also by far one of the best alternatives for butter, margarine or vegetable oils. Ideal for those with a sweet tooth who absolutely love baking their healthy favourites.
  • Use it as a spread on oatcakes or crackers to replace cream or cream cheese. Its delicious tropical flavour can provide you with an excellent Low GL snack to have.
  • Add it to smoothies. It may help to make your smoothie more filling or as some would suggest, give you more energy.
  • Melt the pureed coconut, and use it as a moisturiser or mix it with your body lotion. Coconut has a long history of use in the Far East as a natural skin moisturiser.
  • Use it as a natural intensive hair conditioner, just as you would with coconut oil. Gently spread the melted pureed coconut through your hair, then washing after 45 minutes.

Now that you are aware of the above, why not try out Nutiva Coconut Manna-i.e heaven in a tub!
