We Love the Planet - New Zero Waste Deodorant Available Now

With the G20 Summit held in Osaka this year (Japan is one of the world’s biggest per capita users of plastic packaging, second only to the USA), Glastonbury going plastic free and today being the launch of the third “Plastic Free July”, plastic is, unfortunately, a hot topic globally. Plastic not-so fantastic, the statistics are scary for the future unless something is done urgently. In 1950, the world’s population of 2.5 billion produced 1.5 million tons of plastic; in 2016, a global population of more than 7 billion people produced over 320 million tons of plastic. This is set to double by 2034[1].

Many people comment about how difficult it is to go plastic-free when it comes to health and beauty products, and we know that making packaging as environmentally friendly as possible and running a sustainable and ethical business are high on the agenda of all our suppliers and all the plastics used for packaging the products sold on our website are either recycled post consumer resin and/or recyclable.

One brand new to Kijani Living is on a zero waste mission when it comes to beauty and lifestyle products, We Love the Planet! (No, that’s the brand name, but yes! We DO love the planet too!) Now available in our store are their rather fabulous deodorants!

Available in five different fragrances, plus a sensitive fragrance-free option, and in two formats: a snaplock container made from recyclable tin or a wide-opening compostable and biodegradable cardboard tube, which makes it very easy to use and apply the cream.

100% of the ingredients are from natural origin, and the products are third-party certified by Natural Cosmetics Standard (NCS) and EcoControl. The natural ingredients in the deodorant keep you feeling and smelling fresh, whilst also soothing and hydrating the underarm area. The soft cream is quickly absorbed into your skin and does not clog pores as it is aluminium-free.

Each deodorant is based on a combination of coconut oil, beeswax and cornstarch powder, among other things, which make the deodorant easy to spread, and leave skin velvety soft. The baking soda neutralises odours naturally. The cream format means it travels well and you can also take it onboard a plane in your cabin luggage.

In the short time of listing this range, we’ve been asked several times the difference between the stick and tin. Whilst both the tin and tube deodorants contain the same ingredients, the formula in the tin is a cream designed to be rubbed into your armpits with your fingers, whilst the stick is thicker and can be spread like any other stick deodorant. The tin is snap-lockable, travels well and is ideal for keeping in your handbag or for using whilst out and about. The stick is ideal for using at home in the bathroom. Both products represent superb value and will last around three months.

Whether you’re taking part in Plastic Free July or just conscious of the environment and the impact our consumerism is having on it, We Love the Planet deodorants are a step in the right direction. Shop the range here
