Glastonbury marks the beginning of the festival season for many, and it has to be said that although other countries have their own, no other country has quite so many festivals done quite so well. It’s true, we Brits love a good festival, but attending such events doesn’t always make it easy to be as environmentally friendly or healthy as we might aspire to be.
This year’s event at Worthy Farm saw around 200,000 visitors take to the fields, and there was a lot of talk around the main theme of the environment and climate change. In fact, the organisers put a ban on single-use plastic for the festival, which was supported by the nation’s treasure Sir David Attenborough, who turned up to give a surprise talk on the Pyramid Stage where he urged festival goers to reduce their impact on the environment. In 2017, over a million plastic drinks bottles were sold at Glastonbury, so the fact that no bottles were sold on site this year is a massive step in the right direction.
Whichever festival you are attending this year, we have rounded up our festival essential products just for you to stay healthy and beautiful!
Remember all the buzz about coconut oil and its versatility a few years back? Well, don’t forget it! Packing some coconut oil in your festival backpack really is one of the best ideas you will have. Our top tip, rather than taking the whole jar, find an empty cosmetics container to reuse and decant some coconut oil into it. In case you’ve forgotten the many uses of coconut oil, here’s a few (listed from top to toe!) that you might wish to consider come festival time:
Light hair styling, face cleanser, eye makeup remover, highlighter, oil pulling/teeth cleaning (it’s only a few days but if you feel the need to add baking soda for a deeper clean), shaving, all-over body moisturisation, insect bites, after sun, maybe you’ll even fit in a foot massage after all that dancing and stomping round!
One of the greenest toothbrushes out there, this version has a clear travel case with ventilation holes and a cap to help keep your toothbrush clean and dry. Not only is it made from BPA-free recycled yoghurt cups, once you have finished with your toothbrush (after approximately three months) simply return back to us and we will recycle.
Sun cream is a must for any festival goer and this vegan mineral sunscreen with easy-to-rub in formula won’t leave a white film on your skin after application (and that is definitely not the look we want to achieve!) and is also hypoallergenic, making it suitable for most sensitive skin types. It offers broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection to help protect skin from the sun.
Antipodes Moisture Boost Minis
We love our skincare and included this little set for all of you who don’t travel light and like your creature comforts. This duo features Antipodes Divine Facial Oil and Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream to help you look fresh faced for the festival (even if you’re not feeling it!) Both products are antioxidant-rich to help defend skin from damage, whilst the face cream features antibacterial manuka honey Active 20+, to help keep blemishes at bay as you drink/dance/get glittered in the sunshine!
Ener-C Vitamin C Powdered Drink Mix
This little sachets are a godsend at festivals when you wake up a sticky, sweaty mess in your tent the morning after the night before (at, like, 5am as the sun’s up early and you are baking in your tent!) All the flavours are delicious, although our all-time favourite is Pineapple-Coconut, and are a great source of vitamins, minerals and electrolytes to help increase and maintain energy levels, thanks to the invigorating power of B-vitamins. Your immune system will also thank you for the vitamin C and zinc content. Just add to your water and go!
Eating healthily at festivals can be difficult, not to mention expensive! These little balls of energy from Nutiva are organic, vegan and non-GMO, not to mention delicious! Featuring the benefits of MCTs and the nutty flavour of hemp and chia seed. They’re perfect for on-the-go superfood snacking, keep them at hand for whenever hunger strikes!
