Autumn Rescue Home Cabinet Saviours

By Isabelle, Head Nutritionist

This Autumn feels so different from all others, despite the beautiful change of colours we can appreciate around us, and seasonal produce we can create exciting recipes with. Find the time to celebrate the season by getting outside, taking deep breaths in and finding beauty in the days turning shorter. No matter which restrictions are imposed in your local area, take time to get organised and take care of you and your family!

To simplify your to-do list, our Head Nutritionist has put together a range of products you ought to be keeping in your larders and remedy cabinets.

Stress, Sleep and Mood Support

Supporting a healthy nervous system is really important. Any forms of physical or emotional stress can affect the way we live, sleep and react to daily matters. Nature’s Answer Liquid B complex contains the essential B12, Thiamin and Niacin as well as Vitamin C in a simple daily teaspoon intake. Your B vitamins can also be obtained through wholegrains such as brown rice, millet, barley as well as legumes such as beans and lentils. Seeds and nuts are also high in B vitamins. So make sure to keep those you in your larder.

Adaptogens are natural plants and compounds known to help the body adapt to stress and the effects stress can have on the body. From energy levels, to a healthy skin, hormonal balance or sleep and mood. Maitake and Reishi are two mushrooms revered for their adaptogenic effects. Nature’s Answer’s Bio-pro Maitake  offers a highly potent amount of the active compounds, proteoglycans in an alcohol free extract. Simply take 6 drops daily and it supports energy levels, helps to cope with stress and is also wonderful on the immune system! Perfect home remedy to stock!

Cannabidiol also referred to as CBD, is a well-researched natural compound found in the cannabis plant. The Kanabia CBD range offers a safe and authentic way of benefitting from the properties of the hemp plant on our endocannabinoid system. The latter is responsible for regulating our immune function, memory, motor control, emotions and response to pain.

Kanabia CBD can help relieve inflammation and pain, especially when feeling achy during the colder months. It can be useful if you have also recently upped your exercise programme and are introducing new routines. If on painkillers for the occasional backache, toothpaste or headache, CBD can be the ideal replacement while avoiding the side effects regular painkillers can give you.

CBD can also help support a reduction in feelings of anxiety and low mood. Research has also supported the effects of CBD on our sleep and mood, which can be of great support during this Autumn. This is particularly true if you are struggling to fall asleep, switch off from work while we are still having to work and live at home, or having concerns about the future like so many of us.

Immune Support

Supporting our immune system is important, especially during the cold and flu season and the co-vid climate we are still experiencing.

Below are key products that we you ought to have in your rescue remedy cabinet.

  • Wellness Herbal Resistance Liquid can help build your resilience to infections out there. A wonderful blend of botanicals such as Echinacea, Elderberry, Goldenseal and Yin Chiao, a valued traditional Chinese herbal complex. Yin Chiao has traditionally been of use to help the body adapt to changing seasons. Useful to take at the first signs of an imbalance and adapt the dose as and when required.

  • Vitamin D can be obtained through some food sources, including mushrooms. If you have stocked the Bio-Pro maitake that is great for mood and stress support but also for the immune system as mentioned. Shitake is another mushroom referred to as the chestnut tree mushroom. Contains essential amino acids and vitamins B1, B2 and D2. You can also find Shitake in our Immuno-4 that can be taken by the whole family from the age of 6.

Vitamin D3, a highly absorbable form is also available in drops, at a dose of 2 drops daily providing 4000 IU. Suitable to vegetarians, Nature’s Answer blends vitamin D3 with extra virgin oil for superior absorption. Free from allergens, sugars, sweeteners, artificial preservatives and flavours. It is an essential remedy to have for the normal function of the immune system and the process of cell division.  .

If a lower dose is preferred, Garden of Life Vitamin D3 at a dose of 1000IU is available in spray form and suitable to vegans as well. Blended with essential fatty acids such as organic pumpkin seed oil and cranberry seed oil, it comes in a delicious organic Madagascan vanilla flavour.

  • Vitamin C is an antioxidant nutrient that has been shown to have anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. Its key effects is improving our resistance, thereby supporting our immune system. Replacing our depleted levels is also important, and that can be due to stress, medication, a high intake of tea or coffee during meal times, certain digestive problems or even food allergies causing someone to avoid certain foods.

  • Supplements that support gut health have a huge role to play in the immune system. Making sure we also stock up on fermented foods, legumes, yoghurt with live strains of bacteria can all be helpful in supporting our microbiome.
