We all know the importance of using sunscreen to protect our skin from UV rays, which can prematurely age our skin. If our skin is exposed to the sun, it can cause discomfort through sunburn, and telltale signs of ageing include fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and dullness.
As well as protecting your skin from the sun’s UV rays, JASON sunscreens call upon some potent antioxidants to help protect, repair and nurture your skin. Here we talk you through the antioxidants contained in JASON sunscreens, and why we’ve selected them for the goodness of your skin.
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract - Green Tea Extract - a powerful antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic ingredient, studies have found that drinking green tea can prevent the formation of cancerous tumours. It has also been found that when applied dermally, the polyphenols in green tea can reduce the body’s oxidative stress and increase enzyme and amino acid activity[1]. Another study showed that green tea reduces UV induced inflammations[2].
Vitis Vinifera - Grape Seed Extract - rich in a powerful antioxidant called oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs). These have 20 times the antioxidant power of vitamin E and 50 times the power of vitamin C. A report published in the Journal of Medicinal Food, showed that grape seed extract can protect the body from sun damage[3].
Tocopherols - Vitamin E - as you may know, UV rays create free radicals in our body which damages our skin. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant which absorbs free radicals.
Cucumis Satvius (Cucumber) Fruit Extract - research has shown that the lutein in cucumber can suppress melanogenesis, the discolouration of skin[4]. There is also research carried out in vitro that shows some compounds in cucumber can help protect against carcinogens that cause tumours[5].
Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract - a powerful anti-inflammatory and offers regenerative benefits to skin.
Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract - another powerful anti-inflammatory plant extract with healing benefits.
Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil - jojoba seed oil is very close in structure to skin’s sebum, which means it can help replenish moisturise into the skin. It has a low SPF too.
Euterpe Oleracea (Olive) Fruit Extract - contains essential fatty acids dry skin needs, including oleic, palmitic, and linoleic acids, and phenolic compounds which have antioxidant benefit. Tests in animal have shown that topical application of olive oil can protect against UVB damage.
