It’s time to discuss the mysterious world of sun protection factors- what are they, why do we need them and why use Jason sunscreen?
Summer is here and although in the UK we are deprived of real sun exposure for a large part of the year when we do get a bit of sunshine we always flock to beaches, parks and gardens to catch some long awaited suntan which can result in sun damage unless we are properly protected. Many of us also go away during this month for our yearly summer holiday and we are in need of a good quality sun protector.
What are sun protection factors?
Sun protection factors (SPF) are a measure of how well a sunscreen will protect your skin from UVB rays, which are the rays that cause sunburn, damage to your skin and can contribute to skin cancer.
We are often told to go for the highest SPF available to protect ourselves and our family from the sun. But the question is which SPF should we go for? Well wearing no SPF provides you with 0% UVB protection; SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays, SPF 30 blocks 97% and SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB.
Why do we need sun protection factors?
Whilst sunshine is beneficial in the sense that our skin uses UV rays from the sun to synthesis vitamin D1 within our body. We also need to be cautious in protecting our skin from sun damage which occurs when and UVB rays penetrate our skin which leads to long term skin damage.
