This World Environment Day, it’s Time #fornature
The Message from World Environment Day
The foods we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the climate that makes our planet habitable all come from nature. Yet, these are exceptional times in which nature is sending us a message:
- ∙ To care for ourselves we must care for nature.
- ∙ It’s time to wake up. To take notice. To raise our voices.
- ∙ It’s time to build back better for People and Planet.
This World Environment Day, it’s Time for Nature.
Making a Difference Through What We Do
As a company we strive to have as little impact on the environment as possible through our business, and the brands we choose to do business with. Our headquarters are classed as BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) Excellent and embraces the latest energy saving eco-technologies.
The business park we are located in is one of the first multi-unit developments to offer the latest green technologies to reduce carbon emissions – a targeted 25% reduction in carbon emissions compared to a 2010 warehouse. Around 35% of these savings will come from renewable sources which include photovoltaic panels, rain water harvesting, and air source heat pumps.
Here, we share with you some of the initiatives of the amazing brands we work with and what they are doing to help make a difference.
Organic Traditions are committed to working with farmers and local communities to create eco-driven and socially conscious farming and harvesting projects. Organic Traditions are also committed to supporting farmers who are dedicated to the principles of sustainable agriculture and support farming communities and ecosystems through fair trade initiatives wherever possible.
Since the company was formed in 1999, Nutiva has given away 1% of sales; today that total is over $4 million. In 2015, Nutiva gave away $900,000 to advance ecologically beneficial agriculture and healthy communities. Nutiva aims to innovate, challenging the status quo and creating an eco-positive impact, whilst nourishing people and planet through the purity of their products.
Not only are the formulas for We Love the Planet 100% naturally derived, the packaging has been carefully selected to provide two options: a small sturdy tin can (which has a high recycling percentage in the brand’s home country The Netherlands) which is recyclable or reusable, or a zero waste biodegradable and compostable cardboard tube. Both options are 100% plastic free!
Alba Botanica is grounded in compassion and the ethical treatment of all living things. As such, all products: are Leaping Bunny certified cruelty-free; are 100% vegetarian (use of animal products is restricted to ingredients that have been deposited by animals and are of no future benefit to them, such as beeswax); meet the required organic carbon to CO2 conversion rate necessary for Biodegradable Certification; are free of ingredients that can harm the environment and biodiversity (such as oxybenzone, butylparaben and octinoxate in suncare, and microbeads in scrubs).
Avalon Organics were early adopters of the use of post-consumer resin for their bottles, back in 2010! By converting to 100% PCR resin, the carbon footprint of the brand was lowered by 46% and energy consumption was reduced by 71%. Moreover, the use of 100% PCR resin has the positive result of the elimination of nearly four million PET bottles per year from landfill.
JASON is conscious about choosing ingredients that are not harmful to people or the planet. All body washes and hair care products are biodegradable, sunscreens are reef-friendly, many products are packaged in PCR, and most products are manufactured in a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified factory. The brand has also set some impressive sustainability goals: including increased use of PCR, recycling initiatives and product innovation - watch this space!
