Avalon Organics: Our Name & Our Values

Avalon is the idyllic island featured in Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia Regnum Britanniae. It was the place where the legendary King Arthur’s sword Excalibur was forged and where Arthur was taken to recover from his wounds after one of his many battles. Avalon is described as a magical place with healing powers. The word ‘avalon’ is of Welsh origin and can be translated as ‘apple tree’, or ‘fruit tree’. Monmouth, a Welsh cleric, once wrote that the fields of Avalon “have no need of the ploughs of the farmers and all cultivation is lacking except what nature provides.”
